Although some months ago the Spain’s government approved a new transparency law, it seems that after all these months, things are equal if not worst. for instance, the government announces the budget for various ministries, but it does not explain how the money is disbursed and it ignores citizens requests for an accounting of its expenditures. For example, it is not possible to know how many, number of vehicles used by government officials etc. Or even more surprising: it is not possible to know how many spanish soldiers died in Irak! It’s urgent that Spain implements as soons as possible transparency regulation. Besides the issue of increase credibility and improve transparency, access to information must be recognized as fundamental right.
